Job Notice Board in the Learning Centre

A jobs notice board has now gone up in the Learning Centre and can be found next to the Careers section near the counter.  The jobs are updated every week and students are encouraged to take slips for jobs away with them.

There are similar notice boards in the College Mall and over at the Maritime Centre in Woolston.

Climate Week 2012

Please continue to donate your books through Climate Week and beyond!

March 12th marks the start of the second annual Climate Week. Climate Week is a national celebration of all the positive steps workplaces & communities are taking to protect our environment and hopefully inspire people. Over the last three years the Learning Centre has been working with the company Better World Books to recycle those books donated by City College staff and students, and unwanted/outdated textbooks from our collection.  Better World are very proud of the literacy impact of their company but their business model is also built around keeping books from landfill.  We thought, with the advent of Climate Week that we might pass on some figures showing the impact of our relationship with Better World.

In total we have sent them 1,061 books

Based on account averages, for every 1,000 Books they receive we:

  • Earn £100
  • Raise £33 for the National Literacy Trust (our chosen charity)
  • Save 16 trees
  • Save 2 metres cubed of Landfill Space
  • Save 35,702 litres of water
  • Save 3,298 Kwh of Electricity
  • Save 646Kg of Greenhouse gases

If you would like to donate any books to this collection please place the items in the large collection boxes in College. They are situated in the Mall, second floor of the Austen building, and first floor of the Watts building – they are emptied regularly by our team.

Thank you!
